MTD Shift-On-The-Go 760 - Changing the Deck Belt

WARNING
Be sure to shut the
engine off, remove
ignition key, discon-
nect the spark plug
wire(s) and ground
against the engine to
prevent unintended
starting before remov-
ing the belt.
Avoid the possibility of
a pinching injury. Do
not placeyour fingers
on the idler springor
betweenthe belt and a
pulleywhile removing
he belt.
Changing the Deck Belt
,_ WARNING:Besure toshut the engine
off, removeignition key, disconnect the
spark plug wire(s) andground against
theengine to prevent unintended starting
beforeremoving the belt.
Allbelton yourtractoraresubjectto wearandshouldbe
replacedif anysignsof wearare present.
IMPORTANT:The V-beltfoundon yourtractorare
speciallydesignedto engageanddisengagesafely.A
substitute(non-OEM)V-beltcanbedangerousby not
disengagingcompletely.Fora properworkingmachine,
usefactoryapprovedbelts.
Tochangeorreplacethe deckbeltonyourtractor,
proceedas follows:
1. Lowerthe deckbymovingthedeck liftleverintothe
bottomnotchontherightfender.
2. Removethe beltguardsbyremovingtheself-tapping
screwsthatfastenthemtothedeck.
3. Removethe beltkeeperrodfromaroundthe engine
pulley.
4. Onthe42-inchdeckonly,loosenbut do notremove,
theidlerpulleynuts.Thiswillenablethebelttobe
easilyremovedfromthe idlerpulleys.SeeFig.6-7on
thepreviouspage.
,_ WARNING:Avoid thepossibility of apinch-
ing injury. Donot place your fingers on the
idler spring or between thebelt and a pulley
while removing the belt.
5. Removethe deckbeltfromaroundall pulleys,including
thedeckidlerpulley.
6. Routethe newbelt as shownin andFig.6-8, 6-9or
6-10.
7. Remountthe beltguardsremovedearlier.
Changing the Lower Deck Belt (46" Decks)
NOTE:Severalcomponentsmustbe removedin orderto
changethe tractor'slowerdeckbelt. Seean authorized

Changing the Transmission Drive Belt
