6.21.1 Engine control unit and connectors – Cleaning
Preconditions
☑ Engine shut down and starting disabled.

Cleaning engine control unit and
connectors
1. Remove heavy soiling from housing surface
with isopropyl alcohol.
2. Remove dirt from surface of connectors (1),
connector sockets and shrink-formed com‐
ponents (2) using a cloth moistened with
isopropyl alcohol.
3. Check legibility of cable labels. Clean or re‐
place illegible labels.
Cleaning heavily soiled connectors
on engine control unit
1. Use connector pliers (2) to disengage bayo‐
net union nut (4) and withdraw connector
(3).
2. Clean connector housings, connector sock‐
et housings (1) and all contacts with iso‐
propyl alcohol.
3. When connectors, sockets and all contacts
are dry: Fit connectors and check engine
control unit plug connections (→ Page 176).
