3.5 Operational checks

Unguarded rotating and moving engine components.
Risk of serious injury – danger to life!
• Take special care when working on a running engine.
WARNING
Engine noise above 85 dB (A).
Risk of damage to hearing!
• Wear ear protectors.
Operational checks

Engine under load
Engine at nominal speed
Visually inspect the engine for leaks and general condition;
Check for abnormal noises and vibrations;
Check exhaust color (→ Page 96).
Fuel prefilter Check if suction-side pressure indicated at the fuel prefilter pressure
gauge is within the limit. (→ Page 135).
Drain off water and dirt (→ Page 136)
Intercooler Check drain line for water discharge and obstruction (→ Page 141).
Air filter Check signal ring position of service indicator (→ Page 144);
Replace air filter (→ Page 142), if the signal ring is completely visible in the
service indicator control window.
HT coolant pump Check relief bore for oil and coolant discharge and dirt (→ Page 163).
Raw-water pump Check relief bore for oil and water discharge and dirt (→ Page 165)
