  If the infrared burner on your Napoleon Grill flashes back (makes a loud “whoosh” sound, followed by a continuous blow-torch type sound and grows dim), it could be due to ceramic tiles overloaded with grease, clogged ports, overheating due to inadequate ventilation, a cracked ceramic tile, or a leaking gasket. Turn the burner off and allow it to cool for at least two minutes. Relight the burner and burn on high for at least five minutes or until the ceramic tiles are evenly glowing red. Ensure that no more than 75% of the grill surface is covered. Allow burner to cool and inspect very closely for cracks.

  If the rear and side burners of your Napoleon Grill will not light with the igniter, but will light with a match, it could be due to a dead or incorrectly installed battery, or loose electrode wire or switch terminal wires. Replace the battery with a heavy-duty premium battery. Check that the electrode wire is firmly pushed onto the terminal on the back of the igniter and that the lead wires from the module to the ignition switch are firmly pushed onto their respective terminals.

  Low burner output on high with rumbling noises and fluttering blue flame can be due to several reasons: * Lack of gas: Check the gas level in your propane cylinder. * Pinched supply hose: Reposition the supply hose. * Dirty or clogged orifice: Clean the burner orifice. * Venturi tube obstruction: Clean out the venturi tube. * Propane regulator in a 'low flow' state: Ensure the correct lighting procedure is followed. After turning the pilot knob to high, wait approximately 20-30 seconds for air to purge the gas supply line while pressing the igniter. Ensure the propane cylinder is full. Clean the pilot orifice and electrode. Replace the lead wire if necessary. Note that the pilot flame, especially on natural gas units, can be very difficult to see; place your hand 1 in. (2.5 cm) above the grill surface over the pilot burner to feel for heat.
