Functional description for control unit ED520
1 ED520 General
The door controller is intended for use with sliding or sectional doors with electrical drive, electronic limit
switches and motor speed control encoder. The basic module ED400/500 is fitted with the function board
ED520 for control with automatic functions and that is the new control unit ED520. ED520 is with electronic
limit switches and motor speed control encoder and furthermore ED520 still have all the same features as
ED420 control unit. In connection with control unit ED520 it is furthermore possible to expand with traffic light
and radio remote control. The functions of the door control are designed to ensure the highest possible degree
of comfort while being in accordance with the current safety demands.
1.1 Safety precautions
Installation and maintenance of the controller should only be done by qualified personal.
Disconnect the power prior to any work or maintenance at the controller or any related installations.
Installation, operation and maintenance of the controller, should be done in accordance to any local
directives related to power operated doors. When operating the door in Hold To Run mode, the person
controlling the door shall be instructed in use of the controller, and shall be in full view of the door and
the vicinity of the door during the leaf movement, and not be in a hazardous position himself.
By neglecting the safety precautions, you are responsible for any damage it may cause to
persons or goods!
1.2 Supply disconnection
In order to disconnect the electrical supply to the controller, the controller shall be connected to the
electrical supply with a main switch or a plug that disconnect the complete electrical supply to the
controller.
2 ED520 Normal operation
By turning on the controller for the first time, the display DP1 will show [ ], then the version number of the
program and then [0] again. Then the control unit has to be adjusted by making a run-in sequence paragraph
6.8. After this the control unit is ready for operation. Now the LED’s LD1, LD2 and the display DP1 will indicate
present operation mode, as described in paragraph 7 dealing with indications.
The controller is now ready for operation.
The following describes the automatic functions obtained with ED520 function board.
Open By activation of the input UP [ S5 ] the door will open from any given position until
top limit value (0) is reached, or to any programmed extra opening height.
By activation of the input UP [ S5 ] during closing of the door, the door will stop and
reverse to open position.
Close By activation of the input DOWN [ S6 ] the door will close from any given stopped
position, until the bottom limit value is reached.
Stop/emergency stop By activation of the input STOP [ S4 ] (emergency stop) the door stops at all times.
Reactivation can then only be done after deactivation of the STOP [ S4 ] input and
subsequent activation of the required function. By activation of the stop button on
the control unit, the door will stop at all times. The desired function can subsequent
be selected.
½-open By activation of the input/change-over ½-UP [ S14 ] it is possible to open the door
from a closed position to a programmed height with the UP [ S5 ] or the pull switch
input. If the door has been opened to a programmed height, an additional push on
the UP [ S5 ] button will open the door completely. The opening height can be
adjusted by programming within the limits of the opening height, however not less
