7.2.3 Compass calibration
Magnetic variation, VAR
Set the deviation direction first, i.e. [+] for East or [-] for West, then enter the magnetic
value in 1/10 of a degree.
Adjusting Heel and Pitch
If you use a HPC Compass, you need to set the mounting plane of the compass and
also zero out the Heel and Pitch. If you have a HPC compass of a version lower that
1.1 you have to do this from the Multi Control instrument (see HPC Manual).
For HPC version >1.1
Make sure the boat is levelled
Tick the Autocheck box
Click on start followed by done (you have to click on done within 3 sec)
Now you have set the mounting plane, repeat the procedure above to finetune the heel
and pitch angle.
Autodeviation
This function is used to autodeviate your Compass. Take the boat into a turn, in calm
sea, when steady, press start.
