Hemoglobin (Calculated)
The hemoglobin is calculated based on the following
calculation:
Hemoglobin g/dL = Measured Hematocrit ÷ 3.0
Equation 19
NOTE: The hemoglobin calculation is an estimation
based on a normal mean corpuscular hemoglobin
concentration of 33.3%. The Stat Prole Prime CCS
Analyzer hemoglobin estimation from samples
with Red cell dyscrasia or hemoglobinopathies
may vary signicantly from hemoglobin measured
by cyanmethemoglobin method.
Base Excess of Blood (BE-B)*
Base excess of blood is dened as the concentration of
titratable base needed to titrate blood to pH 7.40 at 37 °C
while the PCO
2
is held constant at 40 mm Hg. Base excess
of blood is calculated as follows:
BE-B = (1 - 0.014[Hb]) ([HCO
3
-
] - 24 + (1.43[Hb] + 7.7)(pH - 7.4) )
Equation 20
