USING THE FLASH FOR OPTIMUM EFFECT
Select the flash mode according to the shooting conditions and purpose.
Auto
The flash will fire automatically in dark or backlit conditions.
When taking a subject against the light, set the Target mark on the subject.
Red-eye ( )
When using the flash to photograph a person, their eyes may appear red in
the resulting picture. Red-eye mode significantly reduces this phenomenon
by emitting a pre-flash before the regular flash.
Caution
• Because of the pre-flash, it takes about 2 seconds before the
shutter is released. Hold the camera firmly to avoid hand jitter.
• The effectiveness of the red-eye reduction mode may be
reduced depending on the distance to the subject, if the
subject is not looking directly at the flash or the pre-flash, or
individual characteristics such as light-colored eyes. In
addition, red-eye is often more pronounced in young children.
Flash On ( )
The flash fires under any circumstances. Use this mode to brighten up the
subject’s shaded face, in backlit conditions, or under artificial lighting such
as fluorescent lights.
Caution
This mode may not have the desired effect under excessively
bright light.
