In add ition, the airbag system will not be
triggered for the passenger in versions with
seat occupancy recognition if:
z the passenger’s seat is unoccupied.

Control ind icator v for airbag systems
The operation of the airbag systems is
monitored electronica lly together with
seat occupancy recognition and the
belt tensioners and is indicated by control
indica tor v.
When the ignition is switched on, the
control indicator flashes for approx.
5 seconds. If it does not flash, does not go
out after 5 seconds or illuminates while
driving, there is a fault in the airba g
systems, the seat occupancy recognition or
the belt tensioners – see also pages 41, 48.
The systems may fail to deploy in the event
of an accident.
Deployment of the airbags is indicated by
continuous illumination of v.
The system’s integrated self-diagnostics
allows faults to b e q uickly rem edied.
Consult a workshop.
9 Wa rning
Seat belts must always be worn. The
airb ag system serves to supplement the
three-point seat belts.
If you do not wear your seat belt, you risk
being seriously injured, or even thrown
from the ve hic le, in the ev ent of an
accident.
If an accident occurs, the belt helps to
maintain the correct seat position that
is required for the airbag system
to prov ide y ou with effectiv e prote ction.
