EDFA Operational modes
Each EDFA unit can work in four operational modes. These modes were
created for independent work of optical amplifier on the optical trace. User have to
set properties of each operational mode only and control electronic control gain or
output power according to user`s settings.
EDFA unit can work in the following four operational modes:
Operational mode Description
OFF
Pump diodes are shutdown.
The EDFA unit don`t amplify
APC
Amplifier Power Control
User set constant output optical level
AGC
Amplifier Gain Control
User set constant gain
ACC
Amplifier Current Control
User set constant

Operational mode settings example
Example 1
Conditions:
Pin = -5 dBm AGC = 15 dB
Results:
Pout = +10 dBm
Example 2
Conditions:
Pin = -10 dBm AGC = 15 dB
Result:
Pout = +5 dBm
Example 3
Conditions:
Pin = -5 dBm APC = 15 dB
Result:
Pout = +15 dBm
Example 4
Conditions:
Pin = -10 dBm APC = 15 dB
Result:
Pout = +15 dBm
