Symptom
Probable Cause
Corrective Action
Unstable Sulfur Detector
Response
Unstable PMT high-voltage
Adjust or replace high-voltage
PCB.
Leak in Flow System
Use gas leak test to find leaks
and repair as needed.
Light leaks
Use light leak test to find leaks
and repair as needed.
Unstable UV Lamp output
Replace UV Lamp.
Unstable 12 VDC output
Replace 12 VDC Supply.
Erratic or Low Baseline
Unstable UV Lamp
Replace UV Lamp.
Unstable high-voltage
Adjust or replace high-voltage
supply or cable.
Light leakage
Use light leak test to find leaks
and repair as needed.
Defective High-Voltage PS
Replace HVPS.
Baseline Off Scale
PMT voltage too high
Adjust PMT voltage.
Contaminated gas supply
Replace gas supply.
Contaminated pyrotube,
transfer tubes or fluorescence
chamber
Clean or replace pyrotube,
transfer tubes or fluorescence
chamber.
Baseline Drift
Flow system leaks
Check flow system for leaks
and repair as needed. See
““Gas Leak Testing”,
Chapter 4.
Contaminated Detector (Odor
and discoloration inside
detector)
Remove and clean detector.
Contaminated pyrotube or
fluorescence chamber
Clean or replace pyrotube, or
fluorescence chamber.
Contaminated gas supply
Replace gas supply.
Water condensed in detector
or flow system
Sample zero or other dry gas
overnight. Proper response
will return after the water is
removed.
Gas leak
Use gas leak test to find leaks
and repair as needed.
Contaminated Flow System
(Drift stops after gas flows are
turned OFF)
Clean or replace tubing in flow
system as needed.
