Overview

This document describes the Panasonic KX-TG6581, KX-TG6582, KX-TG6583, and KX-TG6584 Expandable Digital Cordless Answering System, which operates on DECT 6.0 technology and includes Bluetooth® functionality.

Function Description:

The Panasonic KX-TG658x series is an expandable digital cordless answering system designed for home use. It allows users to make and receive both landline and cellular calls using the cordless handsets or the base unit. A key feature is its "Link to Cell" capability, which enables users to connect their Bluetooth-compatible cellular phones to the base unit. This allows for making and answering cellular calls through the home phone system, potentially improving reception, maximizing cellular plan benefits (like free night/weekend calls), and conserving cellular phone battery during calls. The system also includes a shared phonebook, an answering system with customizable greeting messages, and Caller ID features.

Usage Features:

Setting Up:

  • Connections: The base unit connects to a single-line telephone jack (RJ11C) and requires the supplied Panasonic AC adaptor. If DSL/ADSL service is used, a DSL/ADSL filter (not supplied) is required. The AC adaptor should be connected to a vertically oriented or floor-mounted AC outlet.
  • Battery Installation: Handsets use rechargeable Ni-MH AAA batteries. Correct polarities must be observed.
  • Battery Charging: Handsets should be charged for about 7 hours. A "Charging" indicator is displayed during charging, and "Fully charged" is displayed when complete.
  • Base Unit Location: For maximum coverage and noise-free communication, the base unit should be placed in a convenient, high, and central indoor location, away from obstructions, electronic appliances (TVs, radios, computers, wireless devices), and external mobile phone cell station antennas. Avoid placing it on a bay window or near a window.

Making Calls:

  • Landline Calls (Handset): Lift the handset, dial the number, and press the TALK button or CALL button.
  • Landline Calls (Base Unit): Press the SP-PHONE button, dial the number.
  • Cellular Calls (Handset): Lift the handset, dial the number, then press CELL 1 or CELL 2.
  • Cellular Calls (Base Unit): Press CELL 1 or CELL 2, then dial the number.
  • Answering Calls (Handset): When the unit rings, lift the handset and press TALK, SP-PHONE, or CELL. Any key answer feature allows answering by pressing any dial key (0-9, *, #).
  • Answering Calls (Base Unit): Press SP-PHONE, CELL 1, or CELL 2 when the unit rings.
  • Registration: To use this feature, Bluetooth-compatible cellular phones must be registered to the base unit. This involves entering a specific code on the handset (e.g., #6241 for CELL 1) and following the cellular phone's instructions to enter registration mode. The base unit PIN (default: "0000") may be required.
  • Handset Ring Selection: Users can select which handsets ring for cellular calls.
  • Benefits: Allows making/answering cellular calls via the home phone system, potentially improving reception, utilizing cellular plan benefits, and conserving cellular phone battery.

Shared Phonebook:

  • Adding Entries: Accessible via the MENU button. Allows adding up to 650 names (max 16 characters) and phone numbers (max 24 digits), and assigning them to desired groups.

Answering System:

  • Turning On/Off: Can be turned on/off via the ANSWER ON button on the base unit or through the handset menu (#327 to turn on, #328 to turn off).
  • Greeting Message: Users can record their own greeting message (up to 2 minutes) or use a pre-recorded message.
  • Listening to Messages: Press the PLAY button on the base unit. The message indicator flashes when new messages are present.

Bluetooth Wireless Headset (Optional) for Landline Calls:

  • Registration: A Bluetooth headset can be registered to the base unit, allowing hands-free landline conversations. The headset must be in registration mode, and its PIN (typically "0000") may be required. The HEADSET indicator on the base unit lights green when connected.

Maintenance Features:

  • Routine Care: Wipe the outer surface of the product with a soft moist cloth. Avoid using benzine, thinner, or abrasive powder.
  • Cleaning Contacts: Clean the charge contacts of the handset, base unit, and charger with a soft and dry cloth once a month, or more often if exposed to grease, dust, or high humidity.
  • Battery Handling: Wipe battery ends with a dry cloth. Avoid touching battery ends or unit contacts.
  • Power Outage: The unit will not work during a power failure. A corded telephone (without AC adaptor) connected to the same line is recommended for emergency use.
  • Product Disposal/Transfer/Return: Erase private/confidential information (phonebook, caller list entries) from memory before disposing of, transferring, or returning the product.
  • Environmental Considerations: Keep the product away from electrical noise (fluorescent lamps, motors), excessive smoke, dust, high temperature, vibration, and direct sunlight. Do not place heavy objects on top of the product.

Safety Precautions:

  • Power Connection: Use only the specified power source. Do not overload outlets or extension cords. Insert AC adaptor/power plug completely. Regularly remove dust from the AC adaptor/power plug. Unplug if smoke, abnormal smell, or unusual noise occurs. Never touch the inside of the product if casing is broken. Never touch the plug with wet hands.
  • Installation: Do not expose to rain or moisture. Avoid placing near automatically controlled devices (automatic doors, fire alarms) due to potential radio wave interference. Do not excessively pull, bend, or place heavy objects on the AC adaptor or telephone line cord.
  • Operating Safeguards: Unplug before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Do not disassemble. Do not spill liquids on the telephone line cord plug.
