  First, ensure the handset isn't too far from the base unit. Another unit might be in use, so wait and try again. The answering system might be in use, so wait and try again later. If you're using a BT double adaptor, remove it and connect directly to the phone wall socket. Check if the key lock feature is turned on, and turn it off if it is. Note that the unit isn't designed for rotary/pulse dialing services.

  The noise could be due to electrical interference. Try moving the base unit and handset away from sources of interference. Also, try moving closer to the base unit. If you use a DSL/ADSL (JetStream) service, contact your provider about installing a DSL/ADSL Splitter.

  The handset may not be registered to the base unit, so register it. Alternatively, the handset could be too far from the base unit; move closer. Also, check that the base unit’s AC adaptor is connected. High electrical interference in the area could also be the cause; move the base unit and handset away from sources of interference.
