How to check the condition of the
viscous damper
6 cylinder engines
Caution: A viscous damper (A1) should be renewed
if there is impact damage to the outer casing or if
there is leakage of the viscous uid from the cover
plate.
Check the area around the holes for the damper
fasteners (A3) for cracks and general wear if the
damper has become loose in service.
Check that the fasteners for the viscous damper are
tightened correctly:
Tighten the M12 setscrews to 85 Nm (63 lb ft)
8,7 kgf m.
Tighten the two M12 setscrews which secure the
device to rotate the crankshaft (A2) to 85 Nm (63 lb
ft) 8,7 kgf m.
If it is necessary to renew the viscous damper refer
to the workshop manual.
