What
are
flatlock
seams?
Where
seam
allowances
and
serged
edges
are
inconvenient,
flatlock
seams
are
used.These
seams
are
extremely
flat,
they
join
butted
fabric
layers
and
serge
them
at
the
same
time.
This
produces
the
typical
flatlock
effect
which
lends
a
professional
look
to
collar
plackets
or
raglan
seams.

With
the
fagoting
stitch
you
can
make
very
ehshc
seams
with
a
hemstitching
effect,
for
example
on
corsetry.
Serge
the
fabric
edges
and
tack-baste
them
onto
the
reverse
side.
Lay
the
edges
to
be
sewn
with
about
3
mm
between
them
under
the
sewing
foot.
Overstitch
from
the
face
side
ensuring
that
the
needle
catches
both
the
right
and
left
hand
side
pieces
of
material.
The
fancy
elastic
stitch
is
very
useful
for
materials
that
need
a
flat
seam,
for
example
terry
cloth.
Place
the
two
fabric
edges
so
that
they
overlap
by
about
2
cm
(3/4
of
an
inch)
and
overstitch
each
edge
with
fancy
elastic
stitches.
