Why is my Pit Boss Smoker producing excess or discolored smoke?

  If your Pit Boss Smoker is producing excess or discolored smoke, and your food is becoming discolored, it could be due to several reasons. There might be grease build-up, so follow the Care and Maintenance instructions. The hardwood pellets might be moist; remove them from the hopper, clean it out, and replace them with dry hardwood pellets. Also, the burn pot might be blocked; clear it of any moist hardwood pellets and follow the Auger Priming Procedure. Finally, ensure the fan has sufficient air intake by checking that it is clean, working properly, and the air intake is not blocked. Follow the Care and Maintenance instructions if the fan is dirty.

  If you see an "Err" Error Code and the Auger icon is blinking on your Pit Boss Smoker, it means the auger motor is either jammed or not making a connection. Remove cooking components from the interior of the smoker. Turn the unit on and inspect the auger feed system. Visually confirm that the auger is dropping pellets into the burn pot. It is also possible that the auger is not primed. Before the unit is used for the first time or anytime the hopper is completely emptied out, the auger must be primed to allow pellets to fill the auger tube. Follow Auger Priming Procedure.

  If your Pit Boss Smoker displays an "Err" Error Code and the Igniter icon is blinking, the igniter may not be working properly or making a connection. Remove cooking components from the interior of the smoker. Turn the unit on and inspect the igniter. Visually confirm that the igniter is working by placing your hand above the burn pot and feeling for heat. Disconnect and reconnect the Igniter connector to the Control Board. If it's still not operating properly, call Customer Care for assistance or a replacement part.

  If there is insufficient air flow through the burn pot of your Pit Boss Smoker, it could be due to a few reasons. Make sure that you remove cooking components from the interior of the smoker. Check the burn pot for ash build-up or obstructions, following the Care and Maintenance instructions for ash build-up. Check the fan to ensure it is working properly and the air intake from underneath the unit is not blocked, following the Care and Maintenance instructions if it's dirty. Also, check the auger motor to confirm operation and ensure there is no blockage in the auger tube.

  If you see an "ErH" Error Code on your Pit Boss Smoker, the unit has overheated, possibly due to a grease fire or excess fuel. Press and hold the Power Button for three seconds to turn the unit off, and allow the smoker to cool. Follow the Care and Maintenance instructions.

  If you see an "ErP" Error Code on your Pit Boss Smoker, it means the grill probe wire is not making a connection, or the grill probe is broken. Remove the access panel and check for any damage to the Grill Probe wires. Disconnect and reconnect the Grill Probe connectors to the Control Board. If the Grill Probe is broken, it needs to be replaced. Contact Customer Care for a replacement.
