2. Click on the Details tab, and then Spool Settings option.
3. Locate an option labeled “Enable bi-directional support for this printer”,
and check whether it is checked. If it is, check another option labeled
“Disable bi-directional support for this printer”.
Q. While another PC is printing, an attempt to print from my PC fails.
A. This is normal if you are not using a WindowsNT or NetWare server to
print (If you are directly sending the print data to the print server). To
allow multiple users on the same network to send a print request, set up a
WindowsNT (or NetWare) server and let the server spool all the print
jobs first. (See Section 5-3 in Chapter 5.)
Q. I am trying to enable the print server in a TCP/IP network, but the utility
does not detect the print server.
A. Please check a valid IP address has been assigned to the print server.
Note that the IP address used in this manual is just an example and may
not work in your own network. For steps required to assign an IP
address to the device, refer to Appendix C. A valid and unique IP
address must be assigned to every PC and print server in a TCP/IP
network.

Q. HEWLETT PACKARD DeskJet series printers do not work with the
print server.
A. Disable the bi-directional mode. For the procedure to disable this
feature, refer to the Technical Support page in the web site of
HEWLETT PACKARD.
Q. Smart Print Manger 2 (SPM2) does not detect my print server.
A. Please refer to Chapter 3 to check whether IPX/SPX protocol has been
installed. (SPM2 uses this protocol to communicate with the print
s e r v e r.) If the same problem persists even though the protocol is in
place, add “NetWare Network Client” (“Client Service for NetWare” for
WindowsNT).
Q. I used the arp command, and passed the ping test then. But the same test
fails after I restarted the system.
A. The IP address you assigned with the arp command is just a temporary
address; it will be lost after the system is restarted unless a (permanent)
IP address is set to the print server. Use Smart Print Manager 2 or your
web browser to assign an IP address to the print server (See Section 4-3
in Chapter 4).
Q. The printer does not print properly.
A. Please follow the steps below to check whether the bi-directional feature
of your printer is enabled.
1. From the Start button, select Settings and then Printers. Click using the
Right mouse button on the icon for your printer, and select Properties.
