What to do if my Polaris 440 IQ engine turns but fails to start?
    • J
      John CookAug 16, 2025
If your Polaris Offroad Vehicle engine turns but fails to start, first remove the spark plug(s) and replace them with new ones. If the engine still fails to start, check for spark; if there is no spark, see your dealer. Ensure the fuel valve is “ON” and check the tank level, filling up with the correct fuel. If there is ice in the fuel line, filter, or pump, remember that on the standard Polaris carburetor, the choke will not function with the throttle depressed. Hold the throttle open and crank the engine several times; it may be necessary to change the plug(s), however, the plug(s) may operate satisfactorily when dried. If the engine is running too lean a mixture, which indicates a major engine problem, see your dealer for repairs.

What to do if my Polaris Offroad Vehicle engine lacks power?
    • D
      Debra GrayAug 19, 2025
If your Polaris Offroad Vehicle engine lacks power, you should first change the spark plug and test the operation. Next, check the fuel filter flow by disconnecting the hose and draining about 1/2 cup of fuel. The fuel flow should be steady and encompass the entire diameter of the fuel line. If not, replace the filter. For issues related to incorrect clutching, carburetor, and fuel pump, consult your dealer, as there’s no adjustment to change power output.

Why does my Polaris Offroad Vehicle engine continually backfire?
    • A
      Amber MontoyaAug 22, 2025
If your Polaris Offroad Vehicle engine continually backfires, the possible causes include faulty spark plug(s) or issues with the carburetor. Try changing the spark plug(s). Also, check for dirt or ice in the fuel system and add deicer to non-ethanol fuel to prevent fuel line icing.

What to do if my Polaris 440 IQ has erratic engine RPM during acceleration?
    • D
      Deanna PatelAug 26, 2025
If your Polaris Offroad Vehicle has erratic engine RPM during acceleration or load variations, it could be due to drive clutch binding or driven clutch malfunction. Disassemble the drive clutch to inspect shift weights for wear and free operation (see your dealer). Clean and polish the stationary shaft hub. Replace ramp buttons and rollers (see your dealer). Inspect movable sheaves for excessive bushing clearance and replace if necessary (see your dealer).

Why is my Polaris 440 IQ making noise in the drive system?
    • M
      Mr. Kyle CookAug 27, 2025
If you notice noise in the drive system of your Polaris Offroad Vehicle, it could be due to several reasons. These include broken drive clutch components, bearing failure in the chaincase, jackshaft, or front drive shaft (see your dealer), flat spots on the drive belt surface (inspect and replace if necessary), or a loose or worn drive chain with broken sprocket teeth (inspect and adjust or replace).

    • C
      Christopher TuckerAug 30, 2025
Harsh drive clutch engagement in your Polaris Offroad Vehicle can be caused by a worn or too narrow drive belt, or excessive belt/sheave clearance. Replace the drive belt to resolve this issue. For further assistance, see your dealer.

What to do if my Polaris 440 IQ Offroad Vehicle fails to move?
    • C
      Charles RoseSep 2, 2025
If your Polaris Offroad Vehicle fails to move, the issue could stem from several causes. The clutch might be jammed (belt twisted, spring broken, weights stuck, or lubricated - see your dealer). A foreign object might be caught in the track, or a slider melted to the track clips due to lack of lubrication. The machine may be frozen to the ground, or the track may be iced up. Alternatively, the chain in the chaincase sprocket might be loose or broken, or the chain tightener is loose (see your dealer).

    • A
      Anthony ElliottSep 5, 2025
The drive belt on your Polaris Offroad Vehicle may turn over due to several reasons: using the wrong belt for the application, clutch alignment being out of specification, or a broken or loose engine mount. To address this, replace the drive belt, adjust the alignment offset, and inspect and adjust or replace the engine mount (see your dealer).

Why does my Polaris 440 IQ have poor low RPM performance?
    • N
      Nicole VillegasSep 8, 2025
Poor low RPM performance in your Polaris Offroad Vehicle can be attributed to a worn drive belt (inspect and replace if necessary), excessive belt/sheave clearance (see your dealer), a loose torque stop (inspect and adjust), or a sticky clutch (see your dealer).

Why doesn't the engine turn on my Polaris 440 IQ Offroad Vehicle?
    • D
      dbradfordSep 12, 2025
If the engine of your Polaris Offroad Vehicle doesn’t turn, it could be due to a seized engine or hydrostatic lock. Seizure is a result of poor lubrication, inadequate fuel supply, broken parts, or improper cooling (see your dealer). Fuel may have entered the crankcase while the vehicle was standing or being transported (see your dealer to correct the cause). Drain plug(s) are located on the lower crankcase for emergency draining.
