The PRO-FORM 135 CSX exercise bike is designed for home use to enhance cardiovascular fitness, build endurance, and tone the body through cycling. It offers a range of features to make workouts effective and enjoyable.
Function Description
The exercise bike provides a stationary cycling experience with adjustable resistance levels. Users can pedal to engage various muscle groups and improve cardiovascular health. The console, powered by four D batteries (not included) or an optional manufacturer-supplied power adapter, displays workout feedback such as pedaling speed (RPM, MPH/KPH), power output (watts), distance, elapsed time, and approximate calories burned. It also features a handgrip heart rate monitor to track heart rate trends during exercise.
The console offers both a manual mode and preset workouts. In manual mode, users can freely adjust the resistance of the pedals using dedicated buttons. The console provides continuous feedback on their progress. For a structured workout, preset programs automatically change the pedal resistance and guide users to maintain a target speed or watts output for an effective session.
The exercise bike also includes a sound system, allowing users to connect an MP3 player or CD player via a 3.5 mm audio cable (not included) to listen to music or audio books during their workout. Volume can be adjusted directly from the console.
Usage Features
- Adjustable Seat Height: The seat post can be adjusted upward or downward to ensure a proper pedaling position. When pedaling, there should be a slight bend in the knees when the pedals are in the lowest position. The post knob is loosened, pulled outward, and then re-engaged into one of the adjustment holes before being tightened.
- Adjustable Seat Horizontal Position: The seat carriage can be moved forward or backward to fine-tune the seating position. This adjustment is made by loosening the carriage knob, sliding the seat, and then firmly tightening the knob.
- Adjustable Pedal Straps: The straps on the pedals can be adjusted to secure the user's feet. Users pull the ends of the straps off the tabs, adjust them to the desired position, and then press the ends back onto the tabs.
- Leveling Feet: If the exercise bike rocks during use, the leveling feet under the rear stabilizer can be turned to stabilize the bike on uneven surfaces.
- Console Operation:
- Turning On: Press any button or begin pedaling to activate the console.
- Manual Mode: Automatically selected upon startup. Resistance can be adjusted using the Resistance increase/decrease buttons.
- Preset Workouts: Users can select from Watts Workouts or Calorie Workouts by repeatedly pressing the respective buttons until the desired workout number appears. These workouts are divided into one-minute segments with programmed resistance levels and target zones (watts or speed).
- Heart Rate Monitoring: To measure heart rate, users hold the handgrip heart rate monitor with their palms resting against the contacts. A heart-shaped symbol will flash, and the heart rate will be displayed. For accuracy, hands should be clean, and contacts should be held for at least 15 seconds without excessive movement or tight gripping.
- Audio System: Connect an MP3/CD player to the console's audio jack using a 3.5 mm cable. Volume can be controlled via console buttons or the player itself.
- Settings Mode: Accessed by pressing and holding the Watts Workouts button. This mode allows users to select the unit of measurement (miles or kilometers) and view total distance pedaled and total time used since purchase.
- Automatic Shut-off: The console will pause if pedals do not move for several seconds, and will turn off automatically after several minutes of inactivity to conserve battery life.
Maintenance Features
- Regular Inspection: It is crucial to inspect and properly tighten all parts each time the exercise bike is used to ensure optimal performance and reduce wear. Any worn parts should be replaced immediately.
- Cleaning: The exercise bike should be cleaned with a damp cloth and a small amount of mild soap. It is important to keep liquids away from the console and to keep the console out of direct sunlight to prevent damage.
- Battery Replacement: If console problems arise, low batteries are often the cause. Users should refer to the assembly instructions for guidance on removing battery covers, inserting new D batteries (alkaline recommended), and reattaching the covers. It is important not to mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries. If the console has been exposed to cold temperatures, it should be allowed to warm to room temperature before battery insertion to prevent damage to electronic components.
- Reed Switch Adjustment: If the console does not display correct feedback, the reed switch may need adjustment. This involves removing the rear and front upright covers, locating the Reed Switch and Magnet, loosening the flange screws, sliding the Reed Switch slightly closer to or away from the Magnet, and then retightening the screws. The Crank should be turned repeatedly to verify correct feedback before reattaching the covers.
- Drive Belt Adjustment: If the pedals slip even at the highest resistance, the drive belt may need adjustment. This process requires removing the seat post, post knob, right pedal, and right shield. The adjustment screw is then loosened, and the idler screw is tightened until the drive belt is taut, after which the adjustment screw is tightened. All removed parts must then be reattached.
The PRO-FORM 135 CSX is designed for ease of use and maintenance, providing a reliable platform for home fitness.
