What to do if a QNAP Server drive fails and needs hot-swapping?
- SSarah Cain MDAug 5, 2025
To hot-swap a failed drive in your QNAP Server, log on to QTS, then navigate to Main Menu > Storage & Snapshots > Storage > Disks/VJBOD. Find the failed drive, and prepare a new hard drive. Ensure the new drive's capacity is equal to or greater than the failed one. Remove the failed drive from the device, wait for about 20 seconds or until you hear two beeps. Remove the failed drive from its tray, insert the new drive into the tray, and install it. Finally, go to Main Menu > Storage & Snapshots > Storage > Storage/Snapshots, find the volume containing the new drive, and check that its status is Rebuilding.
