Overview

The LF-100/LF-200 Desktop Label Finishing System is a comprehensive solution designed for label cutting and finishing. This user guide outlines its installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The system primarily functions as a desktop label finishing system, integrating cutting, lamination, matrix removal, and rewinding capabilities. It is designed to process pre-printed media, allowing users to cut labels into desired shapes, laminate them for durability, remove waste matrix, and rewind finished labels onto cores. The system supports both black-mark detection for precise cutting of pre-printed labels and a blank mode for cutting unprinted media.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Part Number: 22834703-EN-E
  • Software: Virgo Cutting Manager (VIRGO CM)
  • Cut Files: Adobe Illustrator and/or Corel Draw (saved as PDF file). The software works with VECTOR PDF files.
  • Black-Mark Specifications:
    • Size: 4x4mm or 2x2mm registration square black mark.
    • Position: Must be the object placed in the lower left corner of any layout file.
    • Minimum distance from left side of label graphics: 4mm.
    • Minimum distance between black-mark and label graphics on bottom side: 4mm.
    • Cutting shape: Must be 100% black (or 100% magenta normal line for dashed lines) with a thickness of 1 pt.
  • Cutting Speed: Adjustable range of 50 to 600, recommended to decrease for labels longer than 250mm.
  • Cutter Plunger: Comes with a 0.9 mm diameter cutter plunger as a standard accessory. Blade length adjustment knob allows for approximately 0.1 mm movement per scale unit (0.5 mm per full turn).
  • Tension Arm Calibration: Supports labels up to 250mm (9.84") and over 250mm (9.84") long, indicated by green and yellow LEDs respectively.

Usage Features:

  • Installation: The system requires the installation of the Virgo Cutting Manager software and device drivers. It is crucial not to connect the Virgo USB to the PC before software installation is complete.
  • Lamination Module Operation:
    • Loading: Printed media and lamination film are loaded onto core holders.
    • Clutch Adjustment: Important for maintaining proper tension to prevent damage and ensure proper lamination.
    • Pressure Adjustment: A knob allows adjustment of roller pressure to ensure the laminating film adheres to the media without air bubbles.
    • Media Feeding: Features both manual and automatic media feeding modes, controlled by "Forward Media" and "On-Off" buttons.
  • Plotter Operation:
    • Media Loading: Laminated media is pulled under the tension arm and between aluminum rollers, with guides adjustable to prevent shifting. Pinch rollers are set at the media edge.
    • Cut Test: Allows users to check cut depth and adjust cutter pressure to prevent cutting through the liner or not detaching the label.
    • Black-Mark Mode: Utilizes a camera preview to align the black-mark in the center of a blue rectangle area for precise cutting. Requires measuring the distance between black-marks.
    • Blank Mode: For cutting blank labels without a registration mark, where the die-cut shape is attached to the bottom edge of the file.
    • Matrix Remover Core Holder: Used to remove unwanted waste matrix, requiring secure taping of the matrix to the cardboard core.
    • Rewinder Core Holder and Slitter Module: Allows for slitting the media into multiple rolls and rewinding finished labels. The slitter module has three positions: lifted for loading, aligned for cutting, and engaged for cutting.
    • Blade Holder: Can be added or removed by unscrewing a black thumb screw.
    • Metal Guides: Adjustable to prevent web shifting.
    • Backslitter: Used to remove unwanted waste from the edge of the roll, with knobs for securing width and adjusting cutting force.
  • Software Update: Involves uninstalling the current Virgo Cutting Manager, downloading the new release from the website, and running the installation.
  • Restore Plotter Settings: A procedure to reset the plotter to default settings by pressing the UP arrow during power-on and navigating through the display menu.
  • Language and Unit Selection: Users can choose the language and switch between metric and inch units.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides solutions for common issues such as yellow and green LEDs simultaneously on the lamination control board (indicating media/lamination run-out or sensor misalignment), plotter errors (e.g., "E01017 Hardware X Position Alarm," "E01019 Hardware Y Position Alarm," "E05004 Hardware Realign Push Rollers Confirm"), "Black-mark not found," "Error: Load the Media," "Dongle not found," "Can't load sensors," "Error: plotter not found," "Last job not found," and issues with media forwarding or opening PDF files.

Maintenance Features:

  • Graphtech Maintenance:
    • Replace the Knife: Involves turning the blade-length adjustment knob to retract the blade, removing the plunger cap, replacing the blade, and reassembling. Emphasizes proper calibration of knife exposure and cut force.
    • Replace the Slitter Blade: Requires removing two screws, replacing the blade, and reattaching the screws.
    • Replace the Cutting Mat: Involves turning off the power, moving the tool carriage to position "A," removing the old mat, cleaning the base, and installing a new mat by aligning it with grooves and peeling off the release paper.
  • General Maintenance: The manual stresses the importance of keeping the original packaging for warranty purposes and notes that the latest VIRGO software version is available on the QuickLabel website.
