Quicksilver 810 Arvor — System & Component Overview and Operaon

12. Steering
Your boat comes equipped with a hydraulic steering system connected to a single rudder. The basic
system for a single engine boat contains a steering wheel, a hydraulic helm pump, a hydraulic steering
cylinder, hydraulic hoses, and a bypass valve system.
Operaon
When turning the steering wheel, the helm pump forces hydraulic uid through hoses to and from the
steering cylinder which is connected to the ller arm on the rudder. The cylinder moves the ller arm
to either port or starboard, depending upon the direcon the steering wheel is turned.
Filling and Maintenance
A hydraulic steering system rarely needs to be relled aer the system is bled. However, if you ever
need to add uid to the system, refer to the steering manufacturer’s manual for complete
instrucons.
Emergency Steering
In the event of loss of steering, your boat is equipped with an emergency steering ller arm. To use
insert the manual ller arm extension onto the rudder sha. Next, rotate the bypass valve located in
the starboard a corner access hatch, 90 degrees down. This allows the hydraulic uid to bypass the
helm and allow manual movement of the rudder.
