7. Use the Port drop down to select the communication port to which the console is connected.
If you are unsure about the comm port assignment, refer to the procedure in USB to Serial Adapter
Preparation section on page 83 starting with step 3. The assigned comm port should be displayed in
parenthesis at the end of the available items on the Device Manager screen.
8. Click the “Browse” button to the right of the “Update File Location” field and locate the appropriate update
file extracted to the desktop.
Note: DO NOT click the “Update Serial Console” button until the SCS console is properly configured as
described in the following steps.
9. With the serial console updater utility open on your computer, power up the SCS console and prepare it to
accept firmware updates:
a. Press DATA MENU until the ‘Console’ submenu is displayed.
b. Press the UP/DOWN arrow buttons to highlight PGM UPDATE and press ENTER. A warning will be
displayed to verify that an RS 232 cable connected to the SCS console and the computer.
c. Press ENTER.
d. The SCS console should now display “LOOKING FOR DATA TO FLASH IC WITH.”
10. On the PC, click the “Update Serial Console” button on the updater screen.
11. Once the update starts, the console will display the current line number of the update file being sent to the
console as well as the total number of lines to complete the update. The update may take anywhere from
5-20 minutes depending upon your computer.
