12.8Measuringdistancesandbearings
Youcanusethedatabarandcontextmenuinformationyoucanuse
themeasurefunctiontomeasuredistancesinthechartapplication.
Youcandeterminethedistanceandbearing:
fromyourvesseltothepositionofthecursor;
betweentwopointsonthechart.
Measuringfromvesselpositiontocursor
Fromthechartapplication:
1.Selectthelocationonscreenthatyouwanttomeasurethe
distanceorbearingfromyourvessel.
Thechartcontextmenuwillbedisplayed.
2.SelectMeasure.
Thefollowingwillhappen:
Themeasuremenuwillbedisplayed.
Alinewillbedrawnfromthecursorpositiontothecenterof
thescreen.
Thecursorlocationwillbemovedatthecenterofthescreen.
Thebearinganddistancewillbedisplayednexttothenew
cursorlocation.
3.FromthemeasuremenuselectFromsothatShipisselected.
Therulerlineisre-drawnfromthecursorpositiontoyourvessel.
4.Youcannowadjusttherulerpositionbymovingthecursorto
thedesiredlocation.
5.Ifyouwanttherulerdisplayedafteryouhaveclosedthemeasure
menu,selectRuler:sothatOnishighlighted.
SelectingrulerwillswitchtherulerOnandOff.
6.SelectBackorOktoclosethemeasuremenuleavingthecurrent
measurementon-screen.
Measuringfrompointtopoint
Fromthechartapplication:
1.Selectthelocationonscreenthatyouwanttomeasurethe
distanceorbearingfromyourvessel.
Thechartcontextmenuwillbedisplayed.
2.SelectMeasure.
Thefollowingwillhappen:
Themeasuremenuwillbedisplayed.
Alinewillbedrawnfromthecursorpositiontothecenterof
thescreen.
Thecursorlocationwillbemovedatthecenterofthescreen.
Thebearinganddistancewillbedisplayednexttothenew
cursorlocation.
3.SelectFromsothatCursorisselected.
SelectingmeasurefromwillswitchbetweenShipandCursor.
4.Youcannowadjusttheendpointbymovingthecursortothe
desiredlocation.
5.YoucanalsoSwapDirectionoftherulersothatthebearing
becomesthebearingfromendpointtostartpoint.
6.Ifyouwanttherulerdisplayedafteryouhaveclosedthemeasure
menu,selectRulersothatOnishighlighted.
SelectingdisplayrulerwillswitchtherulerOnandOff.
7.SelectBackorOktoexitthemeasuremenuleavingthecurrent
measurementon-screen.
Repositioningtheruler
Youcanrepositionarulerbyfollowingthestepsbelow.
1.Selectthecurrentruler.
Therulercontextmenuisdisplayed.
2.SelectMeasure.
Youcannowrepositiontherulerasrequired.

Chartvectorsdisplayindicatorsforheading,COG,winddirection
andtidedirection.
Arangeofvectorgraphicscanbedisplayedinthechartapplication
whenin2Dchartview.Thefollowingvectorscanbeindependently
enabledordisabled:

1Windarrowwinddirectionisdisplayedasayellowlinewith
solidarrowheadspointingtowardsyourvessel,indicatingthewind
direction.Thewidthofthearrowindicatesthewindstrength.
2Tidearrowtideisdisplayedasabluelinewithsolidarrowhead
pointingawayfromyourvessel,inthedirectionofthetidalset.The
widthofthearrowindicatesthetidestrength.

COG(CourseOverGround)vectoragreenlineindicatesthe
vessel’sactualcourse.Adoublearrowheadisusedifthevector
lengthissettoavalueotherthaninnite.

HDG(heading)vectoraredlineshowsthevessel'sheading.
Anarrowheadisusedifthevectorlengthissettoavalueother
thaninnite.
Note:IfSpeedOverGround(SOG)orheadingdataisnot
available,vectorscannotbedisplayed.
Vectorlength
ThelengthoftheHDGandCOGvectorlinesisdeterminedby
thedistanceyourvesselwilltravelinthetimeyouspecifyatyour
currentspeed.
