systemfromcompletingafurtherautomaticlinearizationinthefuture.
Thisfeatureisparticularlyusefulforvesselsinenvironmentsthatareexposedtostrongmagnetic
disturbancesonaregularbasis(suchasoffshorewindfarmsorverybusyrivers,forexample).In
thesesituationsitmaybedesirabletousetheCompasslockfeaturetodisablethecontinuous
linearizationprocess,asthemagneticinterferencemaybuildaheadingerrorovertime.
Note:Thecompasslockmaybereleasedatanytime
,toallowthecompasscontinualmonitoring
andadaptationtore-commence.Thisisparticularlyusefulifplanningalongvoyage.Theearth’s
magneticfieldwillchangesignificantlyfromonegeographicallocationtoanother,andthe
compasscancontinuallycompensateforthechanges,ensuringyoumaintainaccurateheading
datathroughoutthevoyage.
