1.3 Using the SmartPilot to steer your boat
CAUTION: Maintain a permanent watch
Automatic course control makes it easier to sail a boat, but it is
NOT a substitute for good seamanship. AL WA YS maintain a
perman ent watch by the helm.
CAUTION: Risk of gybe
Always be aware of the relative wind angle, especially when using
the autopilot to sail down win d.
How do I automatically steer to a heading?
1. Steady the b oat on the required head ing.
2.
Wheel Pilot:
Engage the wheel dr ive clutch by rotating the clutch lever
clockwise (so the lever
engages fully
onto the loca ting pip).
Tiller Pilot:
Place the push rod end over the tiller pin. I f necessary , extend or
retract the pu shrod using the

and

keys.
WARNING: Wheel drive clutch
Always r each AROUND (not through) the wheel to operate the
wheel dr ive clutch lever.
