Chapter 1: Basic operation 9
Off Course alarm
The SmartPilot warns you when you have been off course from the locked heading
for lo nger than 2 0 seconds . It s hows whether the deviation is to port or sta rboard.
T he warning aut omatically clears if the head ing recovers or if you chan ge course.
1. T o cancel the off course warni ng, press
standby
to return to man ual steer
ing.
2. Check whether y our boat is carrying too much sail, or wh ether the sails are
badly balanced. Y ou can usually significantly improve course k eeping by
impro ving the sail balance.
Note:
The default off course angle is set at 20º . You can adjust this angle in Dealer Cali
brati on (see SmartPilot Commissioning Guide).
1.4 How do I adjust the performance of my
SmartPilot?
T he principal meth od of adjusting the p erformance of SmartPilot systems is by
chan ging the response level. T his is the only user ad justment you shou ld need to
mak e to you r SmartPi lot on a regula r basis .
T he response level controls the relat ionship between the SmartPilot’ s course
k eeping accuracy and the amount of helm/drive activity . When you turn on your
SmartPi lot it will always be at the default level. (This level can be ad justed in User
Calibration
see page 31)
When y ou require extra tigh t course keeping (e.g. for pi lotage in confined and
sheltered w aters), increase the setting. If you want to m inimize drive activity an d
conserve batt ery power , decrease the setting.
Y ou ca n make tempor ary adjustments to the resp onse level when using your
SmartPi lot on a daytoda y basis. By doing this you can match performance to
cond itions as they occur.
