Y our Raymarine SmartPilot will add a new dimension to your boating enjoyment.
However , it is the skipper’ s responsibility to ensure the safety of the boat at all
times by following these basic rules:
• Ensure tha t someone is present at the helm A T ALL TIMES, to take manual
contro l in an emergency .
• Mak e sure that all members of crew know how to disengage the autopilot.
• Regularly check for other boats and any obstacles to n avigation – no matter
how clear the sea ap pears, a dan gerous situation can develop rapidly .
• Maintain an accurate record of the bo at’s posit ion by using either a n aviga
tion aid or visual bearings.
• Maintain a continuous plot of your boat’s position on a current chart. Ensure
that the loc ked autop ilot heading will steer the bo at clear of all obstacles.
Mak e proper allowan ce for tidal set – the autopilot cannot.
• Even when you r autopilot is locked ont o the desired track using a navigation
aid, al ways maintain a log and mak e regular positio nal plots . Navigation sig
nals c an produce significant erro rs under some circumstances and the autopi
lot will no t be able to detect these errors .
