2.1 How do I follow a route set on a Chartplotter?
CAUTION: Safety in T rack mode
T rack mode provides accur ate track keeping even in complex
nav igational sit uations. However, it is still the skipper’ s
r esponsibility to e nsure t he safety of their boat at all times
thr ough careful navigation and frequent position checks. Track
mode assists pr ecise naviga tion and r emoves the ta sks of
compensat ing for wind and t idal drift. However , you MUST still
maintain an accurate log with r egular plots.
In Track mode , the SmartPi lot maintains a route between wayp oints created on a
navigati on system. It makes any course changes necessary to keep you r boat on
course , automa tically compensa ting for tidal streams and leew ay .
T rack mod e is available only if you have connected the SmartP ilot to a suitabl e
navigati on system providing SeaT alk or NMEA information.

Y our Sm artPilot system can receive rou te information from:
• a SeaT alk navigati on instrument or cha rtplotter.
• a navigatio n system transmitting data in NMEA 0183 format.
How do I activate T rack mode?
CAUTION: Make suita ble preparations for entering track mode
When you enter Tr ack mode, the Smar tPilot will bring t he boat
onto the tr ack in a controlled way . The closer the boat is to the cor
r ect heading a nd track, the quicker it will settle the boat onto t he
new cou rse. To avoid an unexpected turn, align the boat approxi
mately with the required track before entering Track mode.
Starting with the SmartPilot in A UTO mode and your chartplotter following a
route.
1. Press
track
to enter T rack mode .
2. W ait for the warning to sound.
The display will show the bearing to the next planned waypoint and the direc
tion in which the boat will turn to reach this waypoint.
