IP Address
(cont)
If the MACH-System exists on its own dedicated network, the IP
addressing scheme can be anything, as long as each controller on the
network is assigned a unique number, and the first of the four octets is
non-zero. The Reliable Controls convention for dedicated networks is
to assign the first two octets to be the industry standard values for a
private network (e.g., 192.168), the third octet should be the same for
every controller (e.g., 1), and the fourth octet should be the panel
number. Using this convention, a typical controller IP address would be
as follows:
192.168.1.200
If the MACH-System network is incorporated into a non-dedicated
network, the IP addressing details must be obtained from the
building’s network administrator.
The MACH-Pro(Web)Com ships with a default static address of
192.168.1.200.
Subnet
Mask
The subnet mask is used to define how network devices are grouped
within larger networks. If an octet of the subnet mask is set to 255 for a
given device, the device can only communicate with devices which
have the same number written in the same octet of their IP address.
Device #1 IP: 192.168.3.22 Mask: 255.255.255.0
Device #2 IP: 192.168.3.200 Mask: 255.255.255.0
Device #3 IP: 192.168.10.25 Mask: 255.255.0.0
Device #4 IP: 192.168.11.33 Mask: 255.255.0.0
Device #1 can communicate with Device #2 (without a gateway), but
not any of the other devices. Device #3 can communicate to Device
#4 even though they have a different number in the third octet,
because their subnet masks have a zero in the third octet. A subnet
mask can also be automatically assigned by a DHCP server.
Default
Gateway
For the MACH-Pro(Web)Com to communicate to other networks and/
or an Internet router, the Gateway IP field must contain the internal
address of the router. The internal address must be accessible to the
MACH-Pro(Web)Com controller, as determined by the subnetwork and
network mask settings. A default gateway can also be automatically
assigned by a DHCP server.
Primary
DNS Server
An IP Address of a valid Domain Name Service server accessible to the
MACH-Pro(Web)Comcontroller. A DNS server can also be
automatically assigned by a DHCP server.
