Power-assisted steering
Never drive with an inadequately
charged battery.
Variable power assisted steering
The variable power-assisted steering
system is equipped with an electronic
control system which alters the level of
assistance to suit the vehicle speed.
Steering is made easier during parking
manoeuvres (for added comfort) while
the force needed to steer increases
progressively as the speed rises (for
enhanced safety at high speeds).
Special case
Depending on the vehicle, in the event
ofabatteryfault(disconnected,dis-
charged battery, etc.), a reset of the
power-assistedsteeringmustbecar-
ried out. To do this:
– the vehicle stationary and on flat
ground;
– with only the driver in the vehicle,
start the engine: the warning
light and/or, depending on the vehicle,
the "Turn steering wheel fully right and
left"messageisdisplayedonthein-
strument panel;
– turn the steering wheel fully to the
left, then to the right. When the engine
nextstarts,theindicatorand/or,de-
pending on vehicle, the message will
switch off.
Note: thepower-assistedsteeringde-
pends on the driving mode selected in
the "MULTI-SENSE" menu 🡺301.
Never leave the steering
wheel on full lock when the
vehicle is stationary.
With the engine switched
off, or if there is a system
fault, it is still possible to
turn the steering wheel. The force
required will be greater.
