The following operating conditions:
– driving for long periods when the low
fuel level warning light is lit;
– using leaded petrol;
– using lubricant or fuel additives
which are not approved.
Or operating faults such as:
– a faulty ignition system, running out
offuelordisconnectedsparkplugsre-
sultingintheenginemisfiringorjerki-
ness while driving;
– loss of power.
may cause the catalytic converter to
overheat, reducing its efficiency which
may irreparably damage it and
cause heat damage to the vehicle.
Ifyounoticeanyoftheaboveoperat-
ing faults, have the necessary repairs
carried out as soon as possible by an
approved dealer.
Thesefaultsmaybeavoidedbyregu-
larlytakingyourvehicletoanap-
proved Dealer at the intervals specified
in the maintenance document.
Starting problems
Toavoiddamagingthecatalyticcon-
verter or the starter, and to prevent
premature wearing of the battery, do
not keep trying to start the engine
(using the start button, or by push
ing or towing the vehicle) without
having identified and corrected the
starting fault.
If the fault cannot be identified, do not
keep trying to start the engine, but
contact an approved Dealer.
Do not park the vehicle
orruntheengineinloca-
tions where combustible
substances or materials
such as grass or leaves can come
into contact with the hot exhaust
system.
Particle filter
Theparticlefilterisusedinthetreat-
mentofexhaustgasesfrompetrolen-
gines.
Depending on the vehicle, the
warninglightisdisplayedonthein-
strument panel to indicate that the filter
is becoming saturated and requires
cleaning. To do this, once the
warning light appears, and as traffic
conditions and speed limits allow, drive
at between about 31 mph (50 km/h)
and68mph(110km/h)untilthewarn-
ing light goes out.
After between approximately 5 and 20
minutes, the warning light should go
out.
Note:thewarninglightmaygooutaf-
ter 20 minutes if the driving conditions
required to clean the filter are not fully
met.
If the vehicle is stopped before the
warning light disappears you will have
torestarttheprocessfromthebegin-
ning.
If the filter is too saturated, the
warning light, and depending
on the vehicle, the light up on
the instrument panel accompanied by
the "Check injection" message. In this
case, please consult an Authorised
Dealer.
If the warninglight,andde-
pending on the vehicle, the light
up,accompaniedbythe"Riskofen-
ginefailure"message,stopthevehi-
cle, switch off the engine and contact
an approved dealer.
