Why is the water from my Rheem Guardian PowerVent Water Heater rusty or black?
    • N
      nashmonicaSep 10, 2025
If your Rheem Water Heater is producing rusty or black water, it could be due to a dissolved anode rod, excessive sediment build-up, or high manganese content in the water. Check the anode rod and replace it if necessary. Drain the tank and replace it if sediment build-up is excessive.

How to troubleshoot no hot water in Rheem Guardian PowerVent Water Heater?
    • Y
      ysawyerAug 22, 2025
If your Rheem Water Heater isn't producing any hot water, start by checking the fuse panel and the on/off switch at the blower motor, ensuring proper continuity on the wall plug. Also, make sure the gas supply and gas valve are turned on. If the pilot doesn't light, refer to the sections on 'Unable to light pilot' and 'Pilot does not stay lit'. If the main burner won't stay lit, consult the relevant section. Verify the ECO with a continuity test and replace the electronic control module and sensor if needed. Also, check if the Flammable Vapor Sensor has tripped.

What to do if Rheem Guardian PowerVent Water Heater pilot won't light but I can hear the spark ignitor?
    • I
      ideanAug 25, 2025
If you can hear the spark ignitor but your Rheem Water Heater pilot won't light, first, ensure the gas supply and valve are on and the white Molex connector is tight. Verify 120V at the blue wire. If there is 120V, the control board is working, but the gas valve is not, so replace it. If there is no 120V, the electronic control board is damaged and needs replacement. Inspect and clean the pilot orifice and burner, and clean, straighten, or replace the pilot tube if it's pinched or clogged. Purge any air from the gas line, cycle the unit after lockout, and try again. Reset the spark gap to 7/64”, and check the spark ignitor and wire, replacing them if damaged.

Why does the pilot light keep going out on my Rheem Guardian PowerVent?
    • V
      Victoria SmithAug 26, 2025
If your Rheem Water Heater pilot light won't stay lit, check for venting downdrafts or other drafts that might be blowing it out. Inspect and clean the flue way. Also, inspect and clean the supply tube, pilot orifice, and pilot burner. Ensure proper grounding of the pilot burner and main burner. Check, clean, repair, or replace the spark ignitor. Make sure the pilot flame covers the pilot hood and is steady and blue.

How to fix Rheem Guardian PowerVent when pilot won't light and I don't hear the spark ignitor?
    • M
      Maurice TaylorAug 27, 2025
If the pilot won't light on your Rheem Water Heater and you don't hear the spark ignitor, first, check that the unit is plugged in and the rocker switch is set to ON. The control module will flash with 3/3. Check the venting for any restrictions. Retry or replace the blower assembly. If exhaust gases exceeded 180°F, check the combustion chamber, blower motor area, and venting for obstructions and excessive temperature. Allow it to cool, then retry. Check and replace the spark ignitor or ignitor wire. Verify 120V at the blue wire (pin #7); if present, you should also have a spark. Replace the gas valve if necessary. Verify continuity at the ECO and replace the gas control.

What causes the main burner to not stay lit on a Rheem Guardian PowerVent?
    • M
      Mary ThomasAug 29, 2025
If the main burner on your Rheem Water Heater won't stay lit, check the gas supply pressure and verify the manifold pressure. Ensure the white Molex connector is tight and verify 120V at pin #6. If 120V is present, the control board is working, but the gas valve is not, so it needs replacement. If there is no 120V, the electronic control board is damaged and needs replacement. Clean or replace the main burner orifice or plate if clogged. Clean, straighten, or replace the main burner supply tube if it's clogged or pinched. Also, ensure that the pilot flame covers the pilot hood and is steady and blue.

Why is the water from my Rheem Guardian PowerVent milky?
    • D
      Debra ColemanSep 18, 2025
If your Rheem Water Heater is producing milky water, it's likely due to aerated water. Allow a glass of hot water to sit for a few minutes. If the water turns clear, the condition is a natural occurrence.

    Steven RobersonSep 12, 2025
Why is the flame yellow on my Rheem Guardian PowerVent Water Heater burner?
    • S
      Scott FitzgeraldSep 12, 2025
If the burner flame on your Rheem Water Heater is yellow, it could be due to scale on top of the burner, a dirty burner orifice or plate, a clogged flue way, improper gas pressure, or insufficient combustion or ventilation air. Clean the burner plate and inspect and clean the burner orifice and plate, as well as the flue way. Check and adjust the gas pressure, and improve the combustion air or ventilation air supply.

    Ethan HuynhSep 8, 2025
Why is the burner flame too high on my Rheem Water Heater?
    • E
      emmabondSep 8, 2025
If the burner flame on your Rheem Water Heater is too high, it could be due to improper gas pressure or the wrong orifice being installed. Check and adjust the gas pressure. If the pressure is correct, install the correct orifice.

Why is the burner flame on my Rheem Guardian PowerVent noisy (whistling)?
    • E
      Edwin RiddleSep 5, 2025
If the burner flame on your Rheem Water Heater is noisy (whistling), it could be due to improper gas pressure or a dirty burner orifice. Check and adjust the gas pressure. Also, inspect and clean the burner orifice.
