Ifthewaterheaterisnotgoingtobeusedduringaperiodofpossiblefreezingweather,itisrecommendedthat
thewaterinsidethewaterheaterbedrained.
Tomanuallydrainthewater:
1. Shutoīcoldwatersupplyandgassupply.
2. Turnoīthetemperaturecontroller.
3. Disconnectthepowertothewaterheater.
4. Placeacontainertocatchthewater.Removethedraincapson
bothisolaƟonvalvesandopenbothvalvesabovethecaps(blue
andredvalvehandles).ͲORͲOpenhotwaterdrainplugatthehot
wateroutlet.
5. Removewaterfiltertodrainthecoldwater.
ManualDrainingoftheWaterHeater
ToresumenormaloperaƟon:
1. Confirmthatallwaterdrainplugsareremoved,thatthegassupply
isturnedoī,andthatalltapsareclosed.
2. Screwinthewaterfilterinthecoldwaterinlet.
3. ReplacethedraincapsandclosebothisolaƟonvalves.ͲORͲScrew
inthe
hotwaterdrainplug.
4. Openthecoldwatersupply.
5. Openatapandconfirmthatwaterflows,andthenclose.
6. Turnonthepower.
7. AŌerconfirmingthatthetemperaturecontrollerisoī,turnonthe
gassupply.
8. Turnonthetemperature
controller.
Runningalowvolumeofwaterthroughthewaterheatertopreventfreezing
Ifthetemperatureexceedstheabilityofthewaterheatertofreezeprotect
itself,orifpowerislost,thefollowingstepsmaypreventthewaterheater
andexternalpipingfromfreezing.(UnitsconnectedwithEZConnect(2
unitlink)shouldbedrainedtopreventfreezingifnotinuse.)

Turnthewaterheateroī.
2. Closethegassupplyvalve.
3. Turnonahotwatertaptoflowwaterabout0.1gal/minorwherethe
streamisabout0.2inchesthick.
Whenthewaterheaterorexternalpipinghasfrozen
1. Donotoperatethewaterheaterifitortheexternalpipingisfrozen.
2. Closethegasandwatervalvesandturnoīthepower.
3. WaitunƟlthewaterthaws.Checkbyopeningthewatersupplyvalve.
4. Checkthewaterheaterandthepipingforleaks.
