The SUPER ELF X3 is a sophisticated Weft Feeder designed for integration with DORNIER looms, facilitating precise yarn handling and storage. It communicates directly with the loom control system via CAN-bus, ensuring synchronized operation and accurate yarn management. The device incorporates a Permanent Magnet motor and a Reserve sensor for rapid reaction and precise yarn storage control on the spool body. Its innovative barrier optical sensors are engineered to deliver optimal performance even in dusty environments and when working with very fine yarns.
The primary function of the SUPER ELF X3 is to feed weft yarn to the loom with high precision and reliability. It manages yarn separation, storage, and release, ensuring consistent weft insertion. The integrated Pulsar HP brake system plays a crucial role in managing yarn tension during insertion and retraction.
The Pulsar HP device performs two key functions:
The feeder allows for adjustable yarn separation, ranging from 0.7 mm to 2.2 mm, to accommodate different yarn types and ensure optimal performance. Coils are detected using a barrier system of photocells, and storage is monitored by an integrated photocell, also utilizing a barrier system. The device includes input weft breakage control, either through an integrated photocell or an external TFE6 weft Stop Motion device, to detect and address yarn breaks promptly.
Weft length can be precisely adjusted by setting the spool body diameter and the number of coils to be released during each insertion. The feeder supports a wide range of weft lengths, from 64 cm to 672 cm. However, it's important to note that weft lengths between 87 cm and 96 cm cannot be measured by the system.
The SUPER ELF X3 offers both full and half weft threading options, facilitated by a pneumatic system. This simplifies the process of preparing the feeder for operation and re-threading in case of yarn breaks. A new electromagnet design enhances the efficiency and reliability of the yarn control mechanism.
The reserve storage position photocell is designed to be reliable even in dusty environments, ensuring accurate monitoring of the yarn reserve.
The feeder is equipped with a Permanent Magnet motor, which provides accurate speed control, faster acceleration, full torque across all speeds, and lower energy consumption. This contributes to the overall efficiency and performance of the loom.
The SUPER ELF X3 offers several features designed to enhance usability and adaptability to various weaving conditions:
The weft feeder can be set for S or Z rotation, depending on the yarn twist, to ensure optimal yarn handling and prevent issues related to yarn untwisting or over-twisting. This setting is crucial for maintaining yarn integrity and fabric quality.
The number of coils (windings) to be released by the feeder at each pick can be set, typically ranging from 2 to 16. The "Insertion Length" setting is dependent on the "Reed width" parameter in the loom's "Weft Insertion" menu. It is recommended to operate the feeder with the drum set to the widest diameter and release the minimum possible number of coils.
The reserve sensor can be set to "Automatic" or "Off." When set to "Automatic," the sensor automatically regulates the take-off point at a fixed position. Possible settings for the reserve sensor include "Off," "0," "1," and "2," corresponding to different levels of automatic position control and reserve storage. "Off" deactivates automatic position control, while "0," "1," and "2" activate it with lower, standard, and maximum reserve storage, respectively. The recommended setting is "1" for standard reserve storage.
When the automatic reserve sensor is off, users can manually set the number of coils to be wound on the spool body when a new reserve is loaded. It's important to set the highest possible number of coils without causing them to overlap near the stopper pin, ensuring the reserve covers over 3/4 of the spool body length. The recommended setting depends on the yarn count, with the coils pitch set as low as possible. If different feeders have varying reserve positions, they should be set with the same number of coils, and their pitches adjusted to equalize them.
The Pulsar HP filling tensioner can be configured based on the yarn type (fiber, filament < 500dTex, wool, filament > 500dTex). The device automatically applies factory pre-settings according to the chosen yarn type.
This parameter enables or disables the yarn filling draw back after yarn cut and allows selection of the angle used to pull the yarn back. Settings range from "off" (disabled) to "3" (maximum angle). "2" and "3" are mostly recommended.
This feature helps avoid incorrect weft length measurements due to potential overlapping of coils on the spool body. It can be set to ON or OFF, with ON being the recommended setting. However, it should be set to OFF for short picks (one coil less) with irregular insertion times.
Controls yarn breaks using an external sensor (Roj PIEZO sensor TFE6). It can be set to ON or OFF.
The SUPER ELF X3 is designed with maintenance in mind, offering features that simplify troubleshooting and upkeep:
The feeder is equipped with an automatic photocells calibration system. To perform calibration, all yarn must be removed from the spool body, and the photocells glass and mirrors must be clean. Pressing the Reserve push-button on the feeder side for about 10 seconds initiates the calibration process. The LED will blink briefly and then remain steady ON, indicating successful calibration. This process is essential when replacing the feeder circuit board or sensor groups. If calibration is performed with yarn on the spool body or dirty glass/mirrors, a "SYSTEM ERROR 4" alarm may occur, blocking the feeder. In such cases, removing the yarn or cleaning the sensors and re-calibrating will resolve the issue.
The SUPER ELF X3 includes an automatic compensation system for its optical sensors, which maintains consistent reading signals even as dust accumulates on the window glass. The amount of accumulated dust is indicated on a dedicated display page, allowing for proactive cleaning and maintenance.
All error messages from the SUPER ELF X3 are displayed on the Loom Dialog panel. The feeder also provides alarms via a signaling LED on its front side. A steady ON LED indicates normal operation. Slow blinking indicates warnings (feeder can continue to work but requires checking), while fast blinking indicates fatal errors (feeder cannot continue to work). For "SYSTEM ERROR 4," refer to the automatic photocells calibration procedure.
The feeder has connections for air line input and full air threading. Full air threading is only possible with a funnel. If an eyelet holder or no balloon control is used, the full air threading connection must be closed with a supplied plug.
The sealed motor, photocells housing, and cable connections meet IP63 Water Proof standards, ensuring durability and protection against dust and water ingress, which is crucial for the demanding environment of a weaving room.
A new anti-balloon design with a reclining funnel simplifies maintenance and optimizes space, particularly beneficial for multi-color applications.
