About the Pads
The TD-3 is compatible with all of Roland’s previous pads, kick triggers, etc. Problems between pads and
trigger inputs can occur, however. Be sure to verify with the chart on p. 45, so that all settings are correct.
The following shows the head/rim or head-only trigger input possibilities.

If you are using a PD-7, PD-9, or KD-7, the pad’s polarity switch should be in the “- (Roland)” position.
For more detailed information, refer to your PD-7, PD-9, or KD-7 owner’s manual.

About Polarity Switch
What is a Trigger?
When a pad is struck, waveforms resulting from the vibrations are transmitted to the TD-3 or
other sound module. These are called “trigger signals.” Trigger input jacks on the rear panel
receive these trigger signals and the trigger indicators (p. 9) on the top panel light up when the
signals are received by the TD-3.
