The SALUS EP210 is a sophisticated dual-channel programmable controller designed for managing both central heating and hot water systems in a home. This wired timer allows users to create personalized schedules for each channel, providing precise control over their heating and hot water needs. By interacting with the heating boiler, motorized valves, or thermostats, the EP210 ensures that the system operates according to programmed settings throughout the day.
The primary function of the EP210 is to switch the central heating system and/or hot water ON and OFF based on user-defined programs. It does not directly detect or adjust the temperature in the house but rather sends commands to the connected devices (boiler, motorized valve, or thermostat) to activate or deactivate the relay. This allows for efficient energy management and comfort.
The controller offers flexible programming options, including a 12 or 24-hour clock format, with automatic Daylight Saving Time (DST) enablement. Users can choose between a 5-2 day program (Monday-Friday and Saturday-Sunday) or a 24-hour individual program format. For each program, three distinct ON/OFF settings can be created per day, allowing for detailed scheduling tailored to daily routines. The programs can be set individually for each channel (heating and hot water) or programmed together for coordinated control.
The EP210 provides several features to enhance usability and flexibility:
Operating Modes: The device supports five operating modes:
Boost Function (+1Hr Override): This feature allows users to temporarily override the current program for a set duration. Available in ONCE, AUTO, and OFF modes (and can be activated even in ADV mode, canceling ADV), the Boost function increases the active program time by 1 to 9 hours. Each subsequent press of the +1Hr button adds an hour, up to a maximum of 9 hours. This is useful for unexpected heating or hot water needs.
Holiday Mode: For extended periods away from home, the Holiday function can be activated to turn off the relay, saving energy. This mode can be set for a maximum duration of 31 days. To activate, press and hold the Holiday button for 3 seconds. The plane icon on the LCD indicates Holiday Mode is active.
Advance Function: As part of the operating modes, the ADV function allows for a temporary shift to the next programmed state (ON to OFF or OFF to ON) without altering the overall schedule.
LCD Backlight: The LCD backlight activates when any key is pressed, providing visibility in low-light conditions. It automatically turns off after 15 seconds of inactivity to conserve energy.
Clock Setting: The device allows users to set the current time and date, including the year, month, and day. The clock format can be chosen between 12-hour and 24-hour.
Program Setting: Users can easily program their heating and hot water schedules. The programming interface guides users through setting start and end times for each of the three daily periods, for both weekdays and weekends (in 5-2 mode) or individual days (in 24h mode).
Memory Backup: The EP210 includes a memory backup feature, ensuring that programmed settings are retained even in the event of a power outage. This is supported by an internal backup battery, which can be enabled or disabled via a jumper setting.
Factory Reset: If needed, the controller can be reset to its factory default settings by pressing a dedicated reset button (typically requiring a pin). This action clears all user-defined programs and returns the device to its initial state, which can be useful for troubleshooting or reconfiguring the system.
Jumper Settings: On the rear of the controller, jumpers allow for configuration of system type (fully pumped or gravity-fed hot water), program type (5-2 days or 24h individual programs), and the internal backup memory battery. These settings should only be adjusted by a qualified installer.
The EP210 is designed for indoor use and must be installed by a competent person in accordance with all relevant regulations. Its intuitive button functions and clear LCD icons make it user-friendly, while its comprehensive programming and override capabilities offer robust control over home heating and hot water systems.
