3.7 PROFINET
Menu path
You can find this information in the following paths:
With MSPS: "System > PROFINET"
With X-200 and X-300: "Agent > PNIO Configuration"
Recommendation
If the device is not assigned to a PROFINET controller, disable the PROFINET
I/O device functionality:
With MSPS devices: Set "PROFINET Device Diagnostics for next boot" to
"Off".
With X-200 and X-300 devices: Untick the "PROFINET IO-Device" box.
Now the SCALANCE device will not accept configuration changes from a
controller.
If you disable PROFINET, the behavior of the SCALANCE device with regard
to DCP requests will not change.
Additionally, set DCP access to write-protected at minimum (see chapter 3.9).
This setting does not depend on the PROFINET status.
Remarks
A restart is required for the changes to become effective. Without a restart, an
improperly configured PROFINET controller could push parts of the configuration,
even without valid login credentials. The port and ring settings are also part of the
PROFINET configuration.
Note on PROFINET update time and watchdog time
Check which update time and watchdog time the application in question actually
needs. Configure reasonable times with this in mind.
Select an update time and a number retries that are as large as possible.
By default, STEP 7 assigns very short update times (1 or 2 ms) and three retries.
This default setting results in a watchdog time of 3 ms or 6 ms. A longer watchdog
time makes PROFINET communication less vulnerable to interference in the
network.
For example, if the CPU cycle time already ranges between 50 and 100 ms, an
update time of 1 ms does not provide much of an advantage.
