3.14.6 Loop detection
Menu path
You can find this information in the following paths:
With MSPS: "Layer 2 > Loop Detection"
With X-200 and X-300: "Switch > Loop Detection"
Recommendation
Enable "Loop Detection" if you often change or add to the network wiring.
"Loop Detection" recognizes accidentally created loops and the corresponding port
is turned off, keeping the network functioning. The precise settings depend on the
network structure.
Note
As a rule of thumb, the switches in the network should use increasing RX threshold
values when proceeding "from the bottom up". With this control, the local switches
react first and switch off the specific port before the higher level switch disconnects
the entire cell.
3.14.7 Port mirroring
Menu path
You can find this information in the following paths:
With MSPS: "Layer 2 > Mirroring"
With X-300: "Switch > Port Mirroring"
Recommendation
If using port mirroring with VLAN-capable switches, make sure that the monitoring
port is not a member in any VLAN (no U/M or T in the "VLAN" tab).
Otherwise, duplicate telegrams may result.
Note
The monitoring port must support a higher transfer rate if it is to record reliably
under load. Duplex send and receive direction are output. A 100 Mbit port can
generate 200 Mbit of monitoring data.
Note
In case of doubt, the "Monitoring Barrier" should be enabled so that the PC at the
monitoring port cannot cause any feedback effects in the network.
If the "Monitoring Barrier" is enabled, the device's WBM will no longer be reachable
via the monitoring port.
