3.9.2 DCP forwarding
Menu path
You can find this information in the following paths:
With MSPS: "Layer 2 > DCP Forwarding"
With X-200 and X-300: "Switch > DCP Configuration"
Recommendation
SCALANCE devices, as PROFINET devices without advanced configuration
interfaces, typically do not offer an option for changing the DCP settings to read-
only access. The "DCP Forwarding" function lets you prohibit forwarding of DCP
telegrams to the ports.
Check where in the network DCP is needed. Disabling DCP telegram forwarding
can interfere with the functioning of the PROFINET controller or PGs.
At minimum, disable DCP forwarding to switched ports that border on an unknown
network.
Note on MSPS devices
Exercise caution when using the following constellation, especially in networks that
interface with multiple parties:
DCP disabled
restricted forwarding of DCP telegrams
This constellation can result in addresses or names of third parties being assumed
to be unassigned even when they are already in use. Duplicate addresses may
occur and cause network problems.
3.9.3 DCP Discovery
Menu path
You can find this information in MSPS devices under "System > DCP Discovery".
Note
DCP is based on layer 2 and does not support routing. "DCP Discovery" starts a
search locally from a SCALANCE device and allows you to supply new nodes with
core parameters if the PC does not have a direct layer-2 connection with the
network.
Its scope comprises the essential features of PRONETA/SINEC PNI/TIA Portal.
Press the "Set Values" button to write the modified parameters to the devices. DCP
requires write permissions on the device in order to modify network parameters. If
access is write-protected, the network parameters cannot be configured.
Note
The function can only be used on the VLAN to which the "TIA Interface" is
assigned under "Layer 3 > Subnets".
