Precautions for safe operation
Before commissioning, the following instructions must be observed:
u To maintain the protection degree, no mechanical or electrical modifications may be made to
the device.
u Only instructed persons may open and close the device.
u The sequence of operating steps contained in this documentation must be followed exactly.
1.2 Intended use
The TurBiScat PM 40 and its peripherals are designed for turbidity measurement in liquids. Possi-
ble applications can be found in the following areas:
Areas of application
l Food and beverage industry
Applications
l Filtration monitoring in beverages such as beer, fruit juices, spirits
l Monitoring of centrifuges, separators, whirlpools in the beverage industry
l Turbidity measurement in oils, sugar solutions, foodstuffs
1.3 Restrictions on use
DANGER
Use in hazardous areas
The use of this device in potentially explosive atmospheres may cause explosions.
u The device must not be operated in potentially explosive areas or rooms.
u Additional components, such as control units or tablets, must not be operated in potentially ex-
plosive areas or rooms.
u The device must not be used for explosive sample substances.
1.4 Foreseeable misuse
DANGER
Hazards associated with foreseeable misuse.
Incorrect use of the device can result in injuries to persons, process-related consequential damage
and damage to the device and its periphery. In the following cases, the manufacturer cannot guar-
antee the protection of persons and the device and therefore does not accept any liability:
u The device is used outside the area of application.
u The device is not installed, set up or transported properly.
u The device is not installed and operated according to the operating instructions.
u The device is operated with accessory parts not expressly recommended by SIGRIST-PHO-
TOMETER AG.
u Improper modifications are made to the device.
u The device is operated outside the specifications.
u The device is exposed to shocks, vibrations or other mechanical forces.
