Warning: Only highly skilled radar experts should change the pre-STC
value. Bad adjustment will compromise target tracking and/or auto tuning
of the radar!
Performance monitor
The performance monitor is used to check the output performance of the transceiver. It is
very important that it is initially adjusted at time of installation, and when the magnetron is
replaced, when power output is still optimal.
Before entering the performance monitor adjustment, ensure that the range rings are turned
ON.
To adjust the performance monitor:
1. Set the range to 36 NM
2. Adjust the gain value manually until you are able to see a light noise background
3. Turn ON the performance monitor image (left side of the image)
4. Adjust the performance monitor distance (B) to 50%
5. Adjust the noise level (C) until the ring appears clear with little noise
6. Adjust the performance monitor distance (B) again until the inner ring is located at 24 NM
Ú
Note: There will be a 2-3 scans delay before the ring reaches its final position.
7. Adjust the value of the performance monitor open option (A) until the opening width of
the displayed noise ring is about 50° - 100° for X-band radars, or 180° for S-band radars
Sidelobe suppression
Occasionally false target returns can occur adjacent to strong target returns such as large
ships or container ports. This occurs because not all of the transmitted radar energy can be
focused into a single beam by the radar antenna, a small amount of energy is transmitted in
other directions. This energy is referred to as sidelobe energy and occurs in all radar systems.
The returns caused by sidelobes tend to appear as arcs.
Ú
Note: This control should only be adjusted by experienced radar users. Target loss in
harbor environments may occur if this control is not adjusted correctly.
When the radar is mounted where there are metallic objects near the radar, sidelobe energy
increases because the beam focus is degraded. The increased sidelobe returns can be
eliminated using the sidelobe suppression control.
By default, this control is set to auto and normally should not need to be adjusted. However,
if there is significant metallic clutter around the radar, sidelobe suppression may need to be
increased.
To adjust the sidelobe suppression value:
