Whenanevenamountoftensionisexertedon
boththreads,asmoothevenstitch,knownasa
balancedstitch,isproduced.
Correcttensionisimportantbecausetoomuch
ortoolitlewillweakenyourseamsorcauseyour
fabrictopucker.Makeatestsamplewiththe
fabricandthreadyouplantouseandexamine
it.
Aperfect,wellbalancedstitch(1)willhavethe
needleandbobbinthreadslockedbetweenthe
twolayersoffabricwithnoloopsontopor
bottomandnopuckering.
Toomuchtensionwillproduceatightstitch(2)
whichwillcausethefabrictopucker.
Todecreasetension,turnthedialtoalower
number.
Toolittletensionwillproducealoosestitch(3)
whichwillcauseloopsinyourseam.
Toincreasetension,turnthedialtoahigher
number.
