9.1BREAK-INPERIOD,NEWTRACK
CAUTION

NOTICE
CLOSELYMONITORTHETRACKCONDITIONNINGPROCESSFORTHEFIRST150HOURSOF
OPERATION.
•Anadequatebreak-inperiodisrequiredtoconditionanewtrack.Usetalctoconditionanewtrack.Ifyoudonothave
talchandy,water,mud,snow,softground,anddustarelubricatingagentsabletoaccomplishsuchconditioning.
•Anewtrackgeneratesmoreheatinthewheelpathandtreadprolesthanaconditionedtrack.
Thisisonemorereasontoconditionanewtrack,thuspreventingtrackfailureoroverheat.
•Aninadequatebreak-inperiodcangeneratesmokeandthesmellofburntrubberandrubberdepositsonthetrack
andtheframe.Itmayalsocausedamagetotheinnersideofthelugs,suchasscufng.
•Topreventscufng,anewrubbertrackmustbepreconditionedBEFOREusingitintheeldsorontheroad.Anew
trackshouldbepreconditionedwithdirtorsomeothernon-causticmaterial.Thisisdonebyscatteringathinlayerof
thematerialoverthesurfaceofthetrackanddrivingthesystemslowlyforashortperiod.Thedirtactsasalubricant
andenhancesthetrackconditioningprocess.Conditioningmayneedtobedonemorethanonceifthesystemis
usedontheroadforlongdistancedispatch.
•Afterinitialconditioning,thesystemshouldbeoperatedintheeldtofurtherconditionthetrack.Thetrackconditioning
processshouldbecheckedoftenfortherst150hoursofoperation.Afterusingthesystemineldconditionsfora
while,thedrivelugswillhardenandbetterresistheatandscufng.
•Ifacceleratedscufngshouldoccurwithhighheatonthedrivelugs,seeSECTION6ofthismanualforadjustment
andalignmentproceduresorcontactyourSoucyTrackdealer.
9.2USEOFTALC
•Duringthebreak-inphase,coatthetrackwithtalc.T alcactsasadrylubricant.Itpreventsoverheatingandreduces
frictionbetweenwheelandtrack.Youcanprocuretalcfromyourtractordealer(typicaluseisfortreatedseedplanting
withpneumaticplanter).Applytalcasfollows:
•Sprinkleonecupoftalcpertrack(inordertolubricatethecontactsurfacebetweenthesideofthewheelandthe
drivelugs)anddrivethetractorfor2.5km(1.5mile).
•Whentravelinglongdistance,applytalcevery30minutesoftravel.
•Usetalcasnecessarywhentravelinglongdistance.
