N Turn the low speed adjusting
screw (L) approx. 1/4 turn
clockwise until the machine idles
and operates normally.
Whenever the low speed adjusting
screw (L) has been adjusted, it usually is
also necessary to readjust the idle
speed adjusting screw (LA).
Adjusting the carburetor for use at high
altitudes
The carburetor setting may have to be
adjusted slightly if engine performance
is unsatisfactory at high altitudes:
N Adjust to the standard setting
N Let the engine warm up
N Turn the high speed adjusting
screw (H) slightly clockwise (leaner)
NOTICE
After descending from a high altitude,
restore the carburetor setting to the
standard setting. If the setting is too
lean, it will increase the risk of engine
damage through lack of lubrication and
overheating.
The muffler of your machine is fitted with
a spark arresting screen.
N If engine performance deteriorates,
check the condition of the spark
arresting screen in the muffler.
Clean or replace the screen, as
necessary. To reduce the risk of fire,
never operate the machine without
a properly maintained and
undamaged spark arresting screen
in place.
WARNING
Wait until the engine and the muffler
have cooled completely before
performing the following operations.
N Remove the screw (1)
N Pull the spark arresting screen (2)
upwards out of the muffler
N Clean the dirty spark arresting
screen
N If the screen is damaged or heavily
carbonized, install a new one
N Re-install the spark arresting screen
in the reverse order of steps
If there is a loss of engine power, the
machine is difficult to start or runs poorly
at idle, first check the spark plug.
Install a new spark plug after approx.
100 operating hours or earlier if the
electrodes are eroded/corroded.
The wrong fuel mix (too much engine oil
in the gasoline), a dirty air filter and
unfavorable running conditions (mostly
at part throttle etc.) affect the condition
of the spark plug. These factors cause
deposits to form on the insulator nose,
which may degrade performance.
Removing the spark plug
N Turn off the engine – move the stop
switch to STOP or 0
N Remove the screw (1) and remove
the cap (2) – the screw (1) is
secured in the cap (2) to prevent
loss
