Washing the Element
Wash the element as follows:
1. Fill a wash pan larger than the
element with a non-flammable
cleaning solvent A. Dip the
element in the solvent and
wash it.
A: MOTUL AIR FILTER CLEAN
or equivalent cleaning solvent
2. Squeeze the element by
pressing it between the palms
of both hands to remove the
excess solvent. Do not twist or
wring the element, or it will
develop cracks.
3. Dry the element.
4. Put the element in a plastic
bag. Pour in some air filter oil
B and work the oil into the ele-
ment.

5. Squeeze the element to
remove excess oil.
6. Clean any dirt or debris from
inside the air cleaner case.
NOTE: Recycle or properly dis-
pose of used oil and solvent.
NOTICE
A torn air cleaner element will
allow dirt to enter the engine
and can damage the engine.
Replace the air cleaner element
with a new one if it is torn.
Carefully examine the air
cleaner element for tears dur-
ing cleaning.
WARNING
New and used oil and solvent
can be hazardous. Children
and pets may be harmed by
swallowing new or used oil or
solvent. Repeated, prolonged
contact with used engine oil
may cause skin cancer. Brief
contact with used oil or solvent
may irritate skin.
• Keep new and used oil and
solvent away from children
and pets.
• Wear a long-sleeve shirt and
waterproof gloves.
• Wash with soap if oil or sol-
vent contacts your skin.
