NOTE: Remove the dirt around
the spark plug before removing
the spark plug to prevent dirt from
entering the combustion chamber.
Spark Plug Inspection
Measure the spark plug gap A
with a wire type feeler gauge. The
standard spark plug gap is 0.9 –
1.0 mm (0.035 – 0.039 in). If the
measured spark plug gap is out of
standard range, replace the spark
plug with a new one.
Whenever removing the carbon
deposits, be sure to observe the
operational color of each spark
plug’s porcelain tip. This color tells
you whether or not the standard
spark plug is suitable for your type
of usage. A normally-operating
spark plug should be very light
brown in color. If the spark plug is
very white or glazed appearing, it
has been operating much too hot.
This spark plug should be
replaced with a colder plug.
