Principle and Characteristics
Working Principle
An induction hotplate works by heating
a receptacle using the currents induced
by a magnetic field. When an electric
currentpassesthroughacoil,itgeneratesa
magneticfield.Onaninductionhotplate,this
magneticfieldistheninducedintothebase
ofthereceptacle.Foucaultcurrentsofvery
lowintensitypassthroughthebaseofthe
receptacle.Despitetheirlowintensity,these
currentsgenerateheatinthereceptacleas
they passthrough it. The principle behind
theinductionhotplate isto multiplythese
Foucault currents while changing the
directionoftheveryhighfrequencyfieldin
ordertoheatthebottomofthereceptacle.
The heating process is instantaneous,
becauseassoonasthecoilpowersupplyis

For the induction method to function
properly, the cooking utensil must be
ferromagnetic. (See details in the section
Cookingutensils).
