Orion Logic/DSP
modifcation to support
Version 2.x firmware
Orion firmware 2.0 and later implements an enhanced multiprocessor
communications interface between the dual DSPs and the main CPU. A
minor modification must be made to the hardware to support this new
architecture. This document describes the modification step-by-step.
Tools required for the modification are shown above. In
addition, wire stripper/cutters, work light and magnifier
may also be helpful.

Logic Board Orientation for Modification

Flips the logic board to access its underside for the modification process.

Performing the Circuit Modification

Involves cutting tracks and adding a wire jumper between resistors on the logic board.

Reattaching LCD to Logic;DSP Board

Secures the LCD panel back onto the Logic/DSP circuit board, reinstalling insulators.

Reconnecting Logic;DSP Assembly to Chassis

Attaches and secures the Logic/DSP/LCD assembly back to the front panel.

Reconnecting Internal Cables

Reattaches coax and mass term cables to the logic board assembly, excluding ribbon cables.

Connecting Ribbon Cables

Plugs the ribbon cables into their respective sockets, noting offset for specific models.

Front Panel Reassembly

Places and secures the front panel assembly back onto the chassis.

Power Distribution Board Check

Confirms connector 36 on the power distribution board is properly seated.

Final Chassis Reassembly

Replaces the rear cover screws and side screws to complete chassis reassembly.
