Parkthemachineonalevelsurface.
Disengageandlowerthecuttingunits.
Engagetheparkingbrake.
Shutofftheengineandremovethekey.
Waitforallmovementtostop.
Allowthemachinetocoolbeforeadjusting,
servicing,cleaning,orstoringit.
Donotstorethemachineorfuelcontainerwhere
thereisanopename,spark,orpilotlight,such
asonawaterheaterorotherappliance.
PreparingtheTractionUnit
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthe
cuttingunits,engagetheparkingbrake,shutoff
theengine,andremovethekey.
2.Thoroughlycleanthetractionunit,cuttingunits,
andtheengine.
3.Checkthetirepressure;refertoCheckingthe
TireAirPressure(page55).
4.Checkallfastenersforlooseness;tightenthem
asnecessary.
5.Greaseoroilallgreasettingsandpivotpoints.
Wipeupanyexcesslubricant.
6.Lightlysandandusetouch-uppaintonpainted
areasthatarescratched,chipped,orrusted.
Repairanydentsinthemetalbody.
7.Servicethebatteryandcablesasfollows;refer
toElectricalSystemSafety(page52):
A.Removethebatteryterminalsfromthe
batteryposts.
B.Cleanthebattery,terminals,andpostswith
awirebrushandbaking-sodasolution.
C.Coatthecableterminalsandbatteryposts
withGrafo112Xskin-overgrease(T oroPart
No.505-47)orpetroleumjellytoprevent
corrosion.
D.Slowlychargethebatteryevery60days
for24hourstopreventleadsulfationofthe
battery.
PreparingtheEngine
1.Draintheengineoilfromtheoilpanandinstall
thedrainplug.
2.Removeanddiscardtheoillter.Installanew
oillter.
3.Filltheenginewithspeciedmotoroil.
4.Starttheengineandrunitatidlespeedfor
approximately2minutes.
5.Shutofftheengineandremovethekey.
6.Flushthefueltankwithfresh,cleanfuel.
7.Secureallthefuel-systemttings.
8.Thoroughlycleanandservicetheair-cleaner
assembly.
9.Sealtheair-cleanerinletandtheexhaustoutlet
withweatherprooftape.
10.Checktheantifreezeprotectionandadda
50/50solutionofwaterandethyleneglycol
antifreezeasneededfortheexpectedminimum
temperatureinyourarea.
StoringtheBattery
Ifyouarestoringthemachineformorethan30days,
removethebatteryandchargeitfully.Eitherstore
itontheshelforonthemachine.Leavethecables
disconnectediftheyarestoredonthemachine.
Storethebatteryinacoolatmospheretoavoid
quickdeteriorationofthechargeinthebattery.T o
preventthebatteryfromfreezing,ensurethatitis
fullycharged.Thespecicgravityofafullycharged
batteryis1.265to1.299.
